Itoya is a machiya guesthouse renovated from a kyomachiya built over 80 years.
This building is a wooden house formerly used for a thread shop, and now, nearly without any remodeling, it keeps its original form and is reused to accommodate guests.
Guesthouse Itoya is a typical machiya structure called “eel beds.” It is arranged with the entrance, toriniwa, hibukuro, the backyard, and tsuboniwa (zen garden), and each still functions as a passageway of natural light and wind.
